This tropical shot really takes the cake! Vanilla vodka, pineapple juice and grenadine come together to make a fun shot for parties and nights out.
What's it taste like? Vanilla vodka makes the shooter taste like actual cake batter, while fresh pineapple juice and cherry grenadine give it a fruity zing.

Why Is It Layerd Or Stacked?
You don’t have to be a professional bartender to pull off a stacked shot. (But if you make these for your friends, they might be so impressed that they try to tip you anyway.) All you have to do is recall the theory of specific gravity from your high school physics class. No? Okay just remember this: alcohol floats, and sugar sinks — which is why you’ll end up with a red layer of grenadine on the bottom, and a yellow layer of pineapple-spiked vodka on top.

Where Did The Name 'Pineapple Upside Down Cake Shot' Come From?
The Pineapple Upside Down Cake Shot got its name from the Pineapple Upside Down Cake. So where did the Pineapple Upside Down Cake come from? The cake is cooked/baked upside down, but then when removed from the pan, it becomes "right-side up" and ready to serve.
Legend has it that the Dole Pineapple Company sponsored a pineapple recipe contest in the early part of the last century. Many people submitted the upside down cake recipe, which was then promoted by Dole and became popular.
So the Pineapple Upside Down Cake Shot is meant to take on a similar appearance as the cake. Below are two photos of pineapple upside down cakes that we've made -- one is the traditional cake and the other is a bundt cake. See the resemblance in appearance to the shot?
